Four Liverpool pubs are to offer checks on individual's physical state as part of a new campaign to tackle alcohol health risks. The campaign is designed to get men thinking about what harmful effects alcohol misuse can have on their bodies, the Liverpool Echo reports. Julia Glancy, landlady of The Redhouse pub in Maghull, is taking part in the scheme and she told the paper that she thought it was a "great idea".
"Every day we see customers who drink too much or we hear that someone has been rushed to hospital because of an alcohol related problem," she added. And Ms Glancy remarked that a number of her customers would never go to a doctor, so bringing the service to them may help. It was recently revealed that the substance had become a problem in the Lothian area of Scotland - with 5,700 people diagnosed with liver disease or alcohol poisoning last year. By Alf Jarrod
